Lincoln's First Supportive Housing Project to Combat Chronic Homelessness š¢
On Thursday, city officials announced that Lincoln is getting its first supportive housing project to tackle chronic homelessness. This represents a significant step forward in Lincoln's efforts to provide comprehensive support and housing to those in need.
The $5.2 million, 24-unit building will be at 802 J Street. CenterPointe, a nonprofit specializing in mental health and addiction treatment for low-income and homeless people in Lincoln, has been announced as the new facility's service provider.
What is supportive housing?ā¦ Supportive housing combines affordable housing with supportive services designed to help individuals and families with complex needs live more stable and productive lives. It's not just about providing a roof over someone's headāit's about offering the resources they need to thrive.
The benefitsā¦ Supportive housing offers numerous tangible benefits, including:
Improved Outcomes: It enhances housing stability, employment opportunities, mental and physical health, and reduces substance use for residents.
Cost-Effectiveness: By decreasing reliance on crisis services such as shelters, hospitals, and jails, supportive housing proves to be a cost-effective solution.
Stronger Communities: It helps build stronger communities by increasing neighborhood safety and boosting property values.
Addressing chronic homelessness in Lincolnā¦ While overall homelessness in Lincoln has decreased, chronic homelessness is on the rise. According to the Lincoln Journal Star, the portion of the homeless population considered chronically homeless has increased from 12% to 24% over the last seven years. This project aims to address this growing issue head-on.
Project Timelineā¦ Construction is set to begin in October of this year, with completion expected by late 2025.
RENT

Lincoln: The Best Place to Rent in 2024? š”
This news would come as a shock to anyone who has recently examined rent prices, but it turns out Lincoln is actually a great place to rent.
According to a study by Forbes Advisor, Lincoln has been named the best place to rent in the U.S. for 2024. They analyzed 95 cities based on rent-to-income ratios, rental prices, availability, and amenities. Hereās why Lincoln topped the list:
Low Rental Prices: Our median rent is $1,225, compared to the national median of $1,995.
High Availability: There are 394 rental units available per 100,000 households.
Favorable Rent-to-Income: Rent as a percentage of income at 17.6%, compared to the study average of 21.3%.
š Why It Matters
Rent prices are a key factor for many residents deciding where to work and live. They also influence how much money citizens have to spend at local businesses after rent is paid. In short, rents are a key pillar in our local financial ecosystem, and lower is better.

Big weekend ahead of us. Take a deep breathā¦.. and GO!
š§ Penguin Project
Tonight, youāll go watch Annie Jr. at the Lincoln Community Playhouse in support of the Penguin Project, which may be one of the most impressive organizations in Lincoln.

šØāšØ Lincoln Arts Festival
On Saturday, youāre going to be in one of two camps. Those who went to the College World Series in Omaha, and those who stayed in town. If youāre among the select few who stayed, youāll treat yourself to a day of arts at the Lincoln Art Festival. Featuring work from over 80 artists, live music, and food trucks (there are always food trucks). Youāre sure to find a piece of art that Dad will love (or at least thatās what heāll tell you).
š« Fatherās Day
Youāll spend Sunday with Papa. Heāll share tales of his youth and the trouble he got into as a teen. Youāll tell him heās VERY COOL. Here are the top last-second spots for Fatherās Day this weekend:
