The Lincoln Ledger: June 21st, 2024
Happy Friday Ledgers,
The weather is hot, but the beer is ice-cold in Capital City this weekend. Quit hiding in your air conditioning and complaining to your coastal friends that there’s nothing to do in Nebraska… it’s a down-home, good ole’ Nebraskan summer in the 402.
In this week’s issue:
Birdie: Nebraska is officially a golfer’s paradise.
Data Privacy vs Age Verification. Nebraskans will be blocked from PornHub in July in response to LB-1092.
What To Do: Gentlemen, start your engines.
Sportz: Happy National Darius Luff Day to all those who celebrate.
Neighborhood Watch: Ain’t no thang like a wood grain.
🎶 Finish the lyric.
Heartbreak is one thing. My ego another. I beg you, don’t embarrass me…
- Landon

Nebraska has seven of the top 200 U.S. courses ⛳
For better or worse, here is TLL’s three line pitch whenever someone asks why people choose to live in Nebraska.
Nebraska, a three line pitch:
Omaha has one of the highest restaurants per capita of any city in America. (If they ask for an average star rating, evade)
An awesome cost of living and a burgeoning tech sector.
An absurd number of highly ranked, exclusive golf courses.
Rankings released… This month, Golfweek released its Top 200 Modern Golf Courses. Guess who ranked number one? Nebraska’s own Sand Hills, located in Mullen, NE. Why? It’s insanely beautiful, ultra exclusive, and redefines what a fairway should be. It’s also ranked #10 in the world by Golf.com.
Not just Sand Hills… Nebraska didn’t stop at Sand Hills. We have seven courses in the Top 200 Modern Golf Courses in the United States:
Sand Hills (Mullen) - No. 1 (video)
CapRock Ranch (Valentine) - No. 15
Landmand (north of Homer) - tied at No. 40
Dismal River Club Red (southwest of Mullen) - No. 51
Prairie Club Dunes (southwest of Valentine) - No. 94
Wild Horse (Gothenburg) - No. 113
Lost Rail Golf Club (Gretna) - No. 147
By the numbers…
Out of 50 states, Nebraska ranks #9 in terms of the number of top-ranked courses.
Nebraska has the fifth highest golf course per capita in the U.S.
Florida has the most overall golf courses with approximately 1,250 (big shocker there).
The U.S. has roughly 16,000, accounting for approximately 43% of the world’s courses.
📌 Why It Matters
Golf courses to many, represent man's vision of enhancing nature's design. Nebraska's high-ranked courses underscore our state's natural beauty and appeal. Whether you're a local or a visitor, the golfing experience here is second to none.

THE HUB LOSES A SPOKE.
ID Law Passed in Legislature, Pornhub Responds with Nebraska Ban ❌❌❌
In April, LB-1092 was passed 35-3, requiring online porn companies to verify users’ ages. This law goes into effect on July 15 & the high-traffic giant Pornhub has responded by issuing a ban to Nebraskan users that will be implemented on the same day, their parent company citing liability concerns as the main driver.
An anonymous company spokesman said such laws require adult websites to collect information about users in ways that put personally identifying information at risk.
A New Trend: Nebraska joins 7 other states who have been blocked by Pornhub due to similar legislation, with 5 other states pending.
How It Works: Nebraskans will be required to upload images of their driver’s license or state ID card, front & back, in order to maintain access to Pornhub & similar sites.
📌 Why It Matters
LB-1092 was introduced by State Sen. Dave Murman of Glenvil . According to Nebraska Examiner, supporters say the laws are needed to protect children from mental health risks of exposure to pornography. Opponents cite data privacy concerns as well as the reality that such laws don’t address the proposed problem.
Readily accessible tools like VPNs, will provide the same access to these sites. Users with data privacy concerns may start directing their web traffic to less regulated & potentially more harmful sources.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
Nice wood! 🪵
This 8,000 sq/ft beauty is absolutely serving wood-grain realness. She’s natural, 100% Grade A Organic, and will only cost you $10k/month to cool in a Midwestern summer. They literally don’t make them like this anymore.
Built in 1905, this A street stunner is a rare find—expansive, beautiful preservation of original details, and still a single family home. Just south of $700,000 will get you 5 beds, 6 baths, not one but TWO kitchens, at least two suites with attached all-seasons room, and original wall detailing that won’t require any DYI-ing (step AWAY from the nail gun).
This house has more main character energy than a Sarah J. Maas series & potentially comes with a taco bar??? (see Zillow for details).
The Details:
5 beds, 6 baths
7,760 sq/ft
Built in 1905
An actual clawfoot tub (sobs)
❤️ KEEP: The beautiful millwork, the carport gate simply for the bragability, the pantry doors, the 5,000 foot tub for soaking, the white bathroom tiling & pedestal sink.
🗑️ TOSS: The lackluster exterior paint color, the wallpaper, the window treatments, the kitchen aesthetic — keep the bones, freshen the color, pulls & appliances.
