The Lincoln Ledger: March 22nd, 2024
Happy Friday Ledgers,
We begin today with inspirational words from the classic poet and lyricist Bow Wow, as featured in the 2002 cinematic masterpiece Like Mike. May they take you into March Madness opening weekend feeling the spirit of the game. 👼
“Yeah, now basketball is my favorite sport
I like the way they dribble up and down the court
I keep it so fresh on the microphone
I like no interruption when the game is on
I like slam dunk, to take me to the hoop
My favorite play is the alley-oop
I like the pick-and-roll
I like the give-and-go
In this basketball, Bow Wow, let's go”
Editors Note: Shame on you if you did not sing aloud while reading.
In this week’s issue:
New AD: Nebraska hires a new Athletic Director.
What To Do: Basketball, brunch, and brewery board games.

Neighborhood Watch: HGTV Dream Home?
THE LEDGER CONTINUES:
We’ve been doing this for over two months and the reception has been awesome. Thank you for giving us a bit of your time every week. We’re cooking up some fun things for April, so keep your eyes on your inbox next week. 👀
Cheers, and go Nebrasketball.

Last Week’s Poll Results:
Is Trev the one who got away?
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Yes. He was the one. 💔 (55%)
🟨🟨🟨🟨⬜️⬜️ No. And good riddance! 🙅♀️ (45%)
NEW AD
Every Nebraskan’s logic right now
Thank u, next. ⏭️
Like that friend who can’t be single, Nebraska decided that it’s better off without Trev Alberts and has plunged head-first into its next relationship. Maybe they’re rushing into it, but we’re hoping this could be something. Only time will tell. 🤷♀️
Girl, Tell Me More… Who is the guy you might be asking yourself (you’re a silly little gossip cat, tbh)? None other than the former University of Washington Athletic Director, Troy Dannen.
On Wednesday, Dannen was appointed as the new AD for Nebraska, succeeding Trev Alberts. With extensive experience in collegiate athletics, particularly in football administration, Alberts assumes the role under a six-year contract and a starting salary of $1.6 million. Here is a quick breakdown of his contract.
Notable for his successful tenure at Tulane University, where he oversaw achievements like back-to-back American Athletic Conference titles and a Cotton Bowl victory in 2023, Dannen brings a strong track record in managing athletic programs.
📄 Troy’s Resume:
University of Northern Iowa (2008-2015)
Tulane (2015-2023)
University of Washington (2023-2024)
A short last stint… Your eyes are not deceiving you. Dannen’s tenure at UW was just around 5 months. His brief stint coincided with notable success for the University, including an NCAA Football Championship appearance by the Huskies.
Closer to home… Those familiar with Dannen suggest his departure was driven by personal reasons, particularly the proximity of his and his wife's families in Iowa.
Will Troy bring us back to sporting glory? |
WHAT TO DO
Basketball, brunch, and brewery board games.
This weekend is going to be a social one. The weather will be just okay, so we’ll find ways to stay inside and enjoy the company of others.
🏀 Husker Basketball Double Header
It’s not every weekend decade that Nebraska goes to the NCAA basketball tournament. So, we’ll enjoy every second of it as both NU squads take on Texas A&M tonight. We’ll head to the Railyard and watch the games at Gate 25. For dinner, we’re ordering the buffalo wings (which are elite).🍳 Brunch at Early Bird
On Saturday, we’re grabbing brunch with friends. We’re going to Early Bird, the newest breakfast place downtown. Grab drinks of a caffeinated or alcoholic nature, and enjoy a mid-morning feast in the company of your best friends.
READ THE MENU🧩 Brewery Board Games
On Sunday, you’ll start your morning slowly and easily. In the afternoon, you’ll meet with family and friends at Zipline Beer Hall or Cosmic Eye to play board games. Bring your kids to hang out — they’ll have fun, too. Beforehand, pick up a board game at a local game shop like Gauntlet Games.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
HGTV Dream Home, is that you?
At $2.45M, this is the most expensive house we’ve ever featured in TLL. But put your tongue back in your mouth for a second, and let’s play a game of “What If?”…
What if?… I cashed out my 401(k)
What if?… I sold that kidney
What if?… I started selling feet pics
What if?… I let a city bus bump into me and then sued?
Now that we’ve parted with our dignity and all worldly possessions to generate enough spare cash — let’s get to business. We’re buying this house. 🤝
So, what do you get for your investment?.. A beautiful modern farmhouse with a grand entrance and Studio McGee inspiration all over it. 1.1 acres of land to stretch your legs. A primary suite closet that’s bigger than your current home. What’s more, you get a nice little pond that will serve as the home for your new pet ducks.
❤️ KEEP: The wine cellar (obviously), the pizza oven, the insanely tall lofted ceilings, the workout room, the mega tub in the primary bathroom, and the exterior plant lattice.
🗑️ TOSS: The only thing I would experiment with in this house would be some additional soft neutral paint options. Not so much color that it feels out of place, but enough to give the spaces a bit of their own distinct flavor.
The Details:
7 beds, 6 baths
7,086 sq/ft
Built in 2020
A little pond out back for your ducks 🦆
