Lincolnās big week in grants and development š
Thereās a classic saying in business: itās always better to be part of a growing company. While a city isnāt a company, if Lincoln were traded on the stock market (NASDAQ: LNK), its shares would be skyrocketingāfaster than a meme coin (DOODOO COIN) hyped by crypto bros on Reddit. This week, Lincoln had plenty to celebrate, from major grant wins to exciting new development openings, giving us all a reminder that this cityās future is trending up and to the right. š
Monday: Lincoln announces EV charging grant
The week began with the announcement of a $640,000 grant from the Department of Transportation to fund the installation of 20 electric vehicle charging ports in low-to-moderate-income neighborhoods. As part of Lincolnās Climate Action Plan, which aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050, the $800,000 project will be largely covered by the grant, with the city contributing an additional $160,000. This initiative highlights Lincolnās dedication to sustainability while improving EV accessibility in underserved areas.
Tuesday: Lincoln announces $66.7M grant to fund intersection project
On Tuesday, Lincoln officials announced a historic $66.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to fund the $120 million 33rd and Cornhusker Intersection Improvement Project. The largest competitive grant in city (and county) history, this effort is designed to ease congestion and enhance safety with a new bridge over the rail corridor and elevated roundabouts at N. 33rd, Huntington, and Adams Streets, promising smoother traffic flow for the area.
Wednesday: SCC Sandhills Global Technology Center opens
Lincolnās week of wins continued with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Southeast Community Collegeās $37 million Sandhills Global Technology Center. The 65,000 sq-ft facility, located at 84th and O Street, is designed to bridge the regionās skills gap and train the next generation of workers. Programs in biotechnology, design and drafting, and information technology will now have a cutting-edge home, enabling SCC to prepare students for careers in high-demand fields.
In short... It was a big week for Lincoln, showcasing progress on multiple fronts: sustainability, infrastructure, and workforce development. With ambitious projects and historic investments, the moves have us going into the weekend feeling optimistic. š
WHAT TO DO
Pianos, pickles, and Piedmont Bistro.
š¹ Dueling Pianos
Tonight, weāll enjoy the last of this unseasonably warm weather with a progressive dinner in the Haymarket. Youāll do a high ($$$), medium ($$), low ($) ā starting with a cocktail at Kate Martin ($$$), then proceeding to dinner at LeadBelly ($$), and finally making your way to Brewskyās for dueling pianos ($). You'll sit mouth agape as piano players shred through hundreds of songs and make you wonder why you ever quit piano classes as a kid (as a reminder, it was because you had undiagnosed ADHD).
š„ Letās Pickle Bar
On Saturday, put your game face on ā it's time to pickle (ball that is). Grab your favorite headband, do your stretches, and prepare yourself for a raucous game of pickleball. You'll recruit your sportiest friends with the best moves and reserve a court in advance at Let's Pickle Bar. Work up a sweat playing the fastest-growing game in America and wash it down with an ice-cold one. And don't be afraid to let your competitive side show a bit - after all, loser is buying dinner...
š³ Piedmont Bistro Brunching
Sunday calls for mimosas and indulgence, and Piedmont Bistro is the perfect place to make it happen. Roll out of bed, throw on something brunch-worthy, and embrace the judgement-free ordering of a hungover brunch. Translation? Three mimosas (minimum), eggs benny, a solid gallon of coffee, and yesāa breakfast dessert, because why not?
Pro tip: Make a reservation to secure your spot. Afterward, head home for a well-earned nap, fully guilt-free. Itās the Sunday reset you deserve.
